I don’t know

I’d like to start an I don’t know revolution to get people more comfortable with the phrase I don’t know…but…I don’t know where to start.

There are few things I find to be more frustrating than when you realize you’ve been pursuing something that is of no value to your end goal, solely because someone pointed you in the wrong direction. Someone who could have saved themselves some breath, and you some leg work, simply by saying: I’m sorry, but I’m not sure.

Why are people SO embarrassed to admit they don’t know something?! Just because I’m asking you, doesn’t mean I expect you to know. Sure…I hope you do…but if not…then we’re in the same boat. So…what’s the big deal?! I’m not too fond of only using human resources in the first place, but let’s face it; we’re all in this together, and sometimes, that’s all you have. But if we could just get a little more comfortable admitting we don’t know it all, it’d be all we need.

Life is a class in which we never graduate. As long as we’re here, we all have much more to learn. There’s nothing to be ashamed of. Maybe we reach a point where we have some things to teach as well, but that doesn’t mean we won’t get the occasional question within our realm of expertise that still justifies an “I don’t know”.

There may be no such thing as a stupid question…but beware of a stupid answer…those puppies are a dime a dozen!
