“Right may not be expedient, it may not be profitable but it will satisfy your soul…try to live your life in a way that you will not regret years of useless virtue and inertia and timidity. Take up the battle. Take it up. This is your life.”

–Maya Angelou

I wish I could take credit for these words, because they offer the most condensed version of how I try to live my life, but I am so grateful for Maya and her eloquence. Her voice is a constant in my mind…”just do right”.

Please make no mistake, this is no claim of self righteousness. I have done wrong…PLEN-TY of times! And maybe it’s just my cross to bare, but Karma is always so quick to remind me of my life’s mission, even when I forget.

Not long ago, I was standing in line at a Starbucks and the cashier was having SUCH a hard time making change for the cash customers. It put me in rare form…I was furious AND out of patience. How could someone working a cash register struggle with basic math? Was it that hard to count up to the next dollar? All of these things were going through my head (I was judging her) and so it was only fitting that when my turn came around, I withheld my usual pleasantries…I was rude. Even as I walked to my car, I couldn’t let it go. So I sat my coffee on top of my car, reached for my keys, and tried to come to terms with the countless cashier. Before I could do any of that, a strong gust of wind came along and blew my coffee off the roof and all over my car. Those who know me well know I love my Starbucks and I loath a dirty car. Karma asked me with the quickness…who’s the hot mess now?! So just like that…I was back on track.

What’s your daily motto?
